  • PlayStation in the starting blocks on the transatlantic

The catamaran PlayStation (skipper Steve Fossett, USA) could leave New York between Sunday May 14 and Tuesday May 16, heading for Lizard Point (UK). According to router Chris Bedford, a weather window is appearing on the West-to- East transatlantic record route, a qualifying passage for The Race.

  • Interview with Gino Morrelli, PlayStation architect

The duo of American architects who designed PlayStation, Gino Morrelli and Pete Melvin, will join Steve Fossett on board. Gino Morrelli told us about the latest training sessions : the 105-ft giant is now used to sailing in strong winds.

  • Tony Bullimore soon ready

In Bristol (GB), Tony Bullimore and his team are finishing the transformation of their maxi-catamaran for The Race. The ex-Enza New Zealand, provisionally named Millennium Challenge and stretched from 85ft to 100ft, is about to receive her coat of paint before launching at the end of June 2000. The major jobs now belong to the past, and for the needs of the BBC the skipper is undertaking an England / Jamaica record-setting passage on board a 53ft trimaran.

  • Team Philips under repair: aiming for August 2000

In Pete Goss's yard in Totnes (UK), the tests are continuing to detect all the potentially fragile zones of the 120-ft catamaran Team Philips. Repairs are due to begin in about 3 weeks, for re-launching in August 2000. They will consist in adding internal reinforcements and will not alter the external design of the machine.
