The Race - Club Med kicks in the turbo !

Author: The Race Media

Club Med notched up one her best days yesterday: almost 566 miles at an average speed of 24 knots over the last 24 hours. Innovation Explorer was slowed down almost all night but the wind shift to the WNW expected within the next few hours should allow them to get going again. Movement in Cape
Town last night, while Team Adventure is still in the 'pits', Watcher left to go on security station.

Club Med is not content with just perfectly controlling the situation, but intends increasing the lead over her pursuers by as much as possible. Grant Dalton and Franck Proffit kicked in the turbo last night and seeing the speeds they're doing, 25.6 knots, 27.8 knots, one can imagine that it must
be smoking aboard Club Med!

The blue catamaran passed the Kerguelen Islands in the night and this morning was on the longitude of the French islands of St Paul and Amsterdam (37°50 S/ 77°35 E). The island of St Paul was sited for the first time in March 1522 by Juan Sebastian de el Cano, and the Island of Amsterdam a
century later by a Dutch navigator, Harwick Claez de Hillegom, captain of the Zeewolf, the first name of this island. It was ravaged in 1825 by a fire lit accidentally by seal hunters. This fire lasted several months and virtually destroyed the indigenous forest. St Paul and Amsterdam served as a base for numerous fishing boats for its abundance of lobsters until the middle of the 19th century.

Innovation Explorer was short of wind last night and once again had to patch the big gennaker. Skip Novak said "I can imagine our arrival in Marseilles with our boat looking more like Kevin Kostner's trimaran in Water World, with a sail consisting of more patches than entire pieces."

Team Adventure is finishing her repairs in Cape Town, while Watcher, the race security boat left harbour this morning at 0400 to take up her station South-east of South Africa (42° S/30° E).

Warta-Polpharma was surging on at a good 15 knots this morning and is descending towards the SE to pick up the Southern Ocean 'motorway'.

Team Legato is skirting a small depression hovering over her route and is going after the Northerly winds blowing on the North-east fringe of the lows.

PlayStation will most likely reach Miami during the day. All is well on board.

Latest Positions:

Mйtйo Consult's weather forecast:
