Criterion Round Britain and Ireland Race Finish
Author: Trish Jenkins
With the boat's designer and builder on board, Mike Butterfield from Cobham,
Surrey sailed his new 50ft DazCat catamaran Dazzler to take line honours in
the Criterion Round Britain and Ireland Race in the early hours of this
morning. Crossing the Royal Yacht Squadron finish line at 03.40 this morning,
Mike and co-owner Harvey Bowden were greeted with champagne and well wishers
as they docked in Cowes Yacht Haven Marina shortly after the finish.
An hour and a half later, Alex Thomson's sailthatdream.com also crossed the
finish line at 05.07 and although were unable to come into the marina with
their deep draft, family and friends went out to welcome them home in a RIB.
After a hefty breakfast this morning, the crew will sail for Haslar Marina in
Gosport.
The wind died overnight, almost dropping to nothing but Incisor of Wight at
0500 this morning had 25nm to run. With the adverse tides they will be
making slow progress in the the 10 knots of wind from the south. Pindar also
were making slow progress this morning but both boats are due to arrive in
Cowes this afternoon.
