Frensham Pond Sailing Club GP14 Open

Author: Becca Marriott

There were 22 boats (including a number of visitors) who showed up for the last event in the London and South East Travellers Series. With light and very shifty winds, it was almost impossible to set a course, however, the race team did a good job.

The first race saw about 7 boats over the line, but Stuart Worthington and David Moore from Frensham Pond got off to a flying start, but later caught up by the rest of the fleet. Eventually, Steph and Keith Videlo (FPSC) obtained a substantial lead to take the race, with Tim Hemsley and Stuart McManus in second, Graham Nelson and John Badman in third, just beating Colin Robertson and Rebecca Marriott.

Again, the second race was light and fluky, with Steph and Keith leading at the start, Colin and Rebecca closely following. Keith and Steph sailed well to take their second race win. Tim and Stuart were next, and Colin and Rebecca were third. There was a lot of place changing throughout the rest of the fleet for the whole race because of the wind patterns.

The third race was predominantly led by Tim and Stuart, being chased by Colin and Rebecca. They were the top two boats at the end of the race. Keith and Steph didn’t sail, but they did enough to win the event – welldone!

Overall results:

The overall results of the London and SE Area Championships were:

1st Tim Hemsley & "various crews"
2nd Colin Robertson & Rebecca Marriott
3rd Dave Sherwin & Keith Bundy
