Bexhill Sailing Club Albacore Open

Author: Michael Brothwell

A good turn out sailed at the Bexhill Sailing Club Albacore Open Meeting on
24th- 25th June. Over the weekend the wind swung through 270 degrees and
varied between force 2 and 5. Despite the conditions, however, racing
remained close and was enjoyed by all.

Race 1 saw Baber/ Pedderson lead to the windward mark with the Thompsons
close on their heels. Baber retired, leaving Thompson with a first and the
Days powering through the fleet to second. The Brothwells, with only 16 1/2
stone combined weight, held onto a third.

Sunday morning saw a sparkling force 2, which veered through 180 degrees
over the course of the race. The Brothwell led to the windward mark, but
were shortly overtaken by Baber and Thompson. The luffing match which
ensued, however, allowed the Brothwells to take a first.

Race 3 ,and with everything still to play for, the Brothwells led until the
leeward mark, with the Thompsons in hot pursuit. In the tacking battle that
followed, the Thompsons gained the advantage which they held to the finish.
The Days finished in 3rd.
