BT TO BROADCAST VIRTUAL PRESS CONFERENCE FEATURING RECORD BREAKING SAILORS LIVE ON THE WEB

BT is to host a "virtual" press conference from Cowes on the Isle of Wight that will be broadcast live on the Internet in the first event of its kind from the town's annual sailing regatta.

The press conference will feature the three main competitors of the round-the-world sailing challenge called The Race, which starts from Barcelona on December 31. It will be broadcast live at 18:00 on Thursday (August 3), at teamphilips.com and cowesweek.co.uk.

As well as broadcasting live on the Internet the press conference will be simultaneously broadcast on The Sailing Channel, a local TV network serving the Cowes area for the duration of the Scandia Life Cowes Week regatta.

BT will create a satellite link between the three world famous sailors -
Pete Goss, skipper of Team Philips, Grant Dalton of Club Med and Steve Fossett of Playstation.

Pictures of Pete Goss will be beamed live from his build site in Totnes, Devon, while both Dalton and Fossett will have an audio link to the press conference from New York.

At the press conference Pete Goss will announce the date for the re-launch of his revolutionary catamaran which lost its port bow during sea trails in March. Grant Dalton and Steve Fossett will bring up-to-the-minute news of their transatlantic record attempts and their progress towards getting to the start line for The Race.

Vanessa Miner, BT Internet's head of sponsorship, said: "This is a unique event the like of which has never been seen before at Cowes Week. BT technology will be bringing all the latest news about Team Philips and The Race to a global audience who can watch it all from the comfort of their own
home."

The Team Philips website is expected to receive hundreds of thousands of hits for the press conference. It has already attracted more than 27 million
hits since it launched in December with three million in one day when the yacht was damaged during sea trails.
