Lightning 368 Open Meeting at West Oxfordshire Sailing Club

This now traditional end of season meeting for the Lightnings at West Oxfordshire Sailing Club was sailed in light shifty winds that gradually faded. Race one saw Ralph Weller take the lead from Adrian Hollier, Mark Giles, Doug Pressey and Caroline Key initially. Then first Hollier and
Giles passed Weller and David Ellins climbed to fourth at the expense of
Key and Pressey. Giles got a lift past Hollier on the beat but two laps
later Hollier sailed past on the reach to take first place ahead of Giles,
Weller, Ellins, Marcus Ingram and Key, Jack Norton was sixth.
Race two saw late arrival Penny Yarwood (nee Harris) shoot away at the
start never to be seriously chalenged after Giles hit a mark. Hollier
improved to an unchallenged second place with Giles third just ahead of
Ingram, Ellins and Key.
Race three and Hollier broke free to lead from start to finish with Penny
Yarwood climbing to second and Elling finishing third with Alex Harris
fourth, Giles fifth and Key sixth.
Overall Results:
The Bernard Patterson Travellers Trophy was won by Marcus Ingram from Up River Yacht Club, with Graham Smith from Wigan S.C. second. The prize for Endeavour (most races sailed) went to David Ellins from Dorchester S.C., first lady Panny Yarwood Up River Yacht Club and Veteran David Preou from Fishers Green Sailing Club.
