National 12 Open Meeting at Spinnaker Club

Author: David Wilkins

As well as England's dramatic last minute goal, October 6th saw John & Katie Meadowcroft sail to success in the last minute of their final race at Spinnaker Club When they narrowly beat Graham Camm and Zoe Ballantyne. This was the Class Chairman’s first ever successful defence of a trophy.
A very shifty and violently gusty wind of up to force 6 provided plenty of entertainment for those on the shore, particularly given a course which included 3 gybe marks. Four races were sailed with the best 3 to count. A forecast of gales, rain, hail and thunder meant that only the keenest turned out, however, the fleet of 9 enjoyed what some were head to say was the best day’s racing of the season.

The day was not without it’s casualties – Simon Liddington’s mast found one of the gusts too powerful and David Wilkins sailing the Adshead’s double bottomed Chapter suffered a seriously damaged reputation at the club with around five year’s worth of capsizes in a single day!
The Meadowcrofts notched up three firsts and a 4th but were pressed hard by David Greening, Graham & Zoe and John & Mandy Thornton.

Overall Results:
