Topper North Zone Junior Squad at Ogston Sailing Club

Author: Jon Emmett

A six race series was held over two weekends for the current North Zone Junior Talent Squad. The first three races at Ogston were held on the 25th of November in moderate breeze and were dominated by Becky Love who would have had a clean sweep of first places if not for a capsize at the leeward
mark caused by an out of control fireball involved in club racing. Sam Worsley took advantage of the situation to take the bullet. There where two other consistent performers in Will Crossley and George Sampson meaning that at the end of the first weekend only four points separated the top four.

The Squad travelled to Scammonden on the first weekend of December for some light airs racing, which saw different winner in each of the races. Becky Love and George Sampson didn’t enjoy the light airs and dropped to third and fifth overall with Sam Worsley and Will Crossley both sailing consistently, scoring one win each. Michael Salt and race winner Antony Murray sailed extremely well but couldn’t make up for a poor performance the first weekend. Worsley took the event by the close margins, winning on tie-breaker with two firsts to Crossley’s one. Next year the Squad travels to Hartlepool for some sea sailing and it will be interesting to see who comes out on top there.
