Barcelona Olympic Classes Sailing Week Overall

Petri Leskinen / K. Heinilia winners of the Trophy Ciutat de Barcelona

At the 470 Men, Petri Leskinen and K. Heinilia from Finland have been the winners of the Trophy Cuitat de Barcelona, given to the absolute best participants of the Sixth Olympic Sailing Week in Barcelona. The team has had the most stable trajectory during the 8 races in the 470 category since they accomplished three first places, two-second places, and a third one. Their worst result has been discarded. 470 Men is the category that has had the most participants, with a total of 39 teams from 17 different countries.

Lack of wind causes no races today

The last journey of the Sixth Olympic Sailing Week has been marked by the total calm in the racing course, against the strong winds that invaded it yesterday. At the same time the swell has made impossible to race in the field course today.

Throughout the entire week there have been a total of 8 races in the classes 49er, 470 Men and Women, Mistral, 7 at the Tornado, Laser standard, 6 in Europe Women and men, laser radial and 420.

300 sailors from different Olympic classes, 31 countries from all over the World, have remembered the Olympic spirit during this Sailing Week in the city of Barcelona.

The absolute winner of the Sailing week is the one that gets the Trophy Ciutat de Barcelona provided with 1500 Euros.

470 men

    In the 470 Men, Pitri Leskinen / K. Heinilia from Finland are the winners with a total of 18 points. Followed by the French Gildas Philippe / T. Cariou (28 points). The third place is for the American Paul Foerster / B. Merrick who have 31.5 points. The Spanish Gustavo Martinez / Tunte Cantero, with 35 points, are the fourth ones. This category (470) had the level 2 score from the ISAF. The winner pair had previous to this competition the eight place but now their position is going to go up a few positions. The French Gildas Philippe/T. Cariou are still the first ones in the ISAF classification. The American pair will also improve their position since they have finished the Sixth Olympic sailing Week in the third place.

470 women

    At the 470 Women, the Spanish team made by Natalia Via Dufresne / Sandra Azon (22 points) is the most impressive since they won in this category, after a very hard fight with the Australian Jenny Amstrong / B. Stowell (23 points) who have finished in the second place, the Russian Vlada Kratcholin / N. Gaponovit (third place with 26 points) and the Ukrainian Ruslana Taran/Oleana Pakholchyck (fourth with 28 points).

Tornado

    At the Tornado, the winners are the French Jean Christophe Mourniac / Philippe Mourniac (18 points). The Sapnish Fernando Leуn / Pepote Ballester are the second ones in the general classification (23 points). The French Pierre Pennec / Yan Guichard are in the third place with a total of 25 points and they are now in the fourth place at the ISAF list. A total of 21 boats have participated in this category.

Laser

    The winner is the Portuguese Gustavo Lima (14 points) followed by the Argentinean Lucas Gonzalez (16 points). Another Argentinean, Sebastian Mazza is in the third place. The Spanish Luis Martinez Doreste who already has the ticket to Sidney, has finished in the sixth place with a total of 26 points. 23 boats have participated in this category.

Mistral

    Jorge Maciel (11 points) is the winner, followed by the also Spanish Ivan Pastor (13 points). These two competitors were fighting against each other to get room in the Sidney competitions. The third place is for Curro Manchon, 15 points. A total of 17 sailors have participated in this category.

49er

    At 49er class, the World Champions, the Spanish Santiago Lopez / Javier de la Plaza Have had total control of the competition accomplishing at the end a total of 12 points. After them, the French Dimitri Dervelle / P. Gasparini (16 points) and the Spanish Iker Martinez / X. Fernandez (18 points). 18 sailors have participated in this category.

Europe Women

    The German, Petra Niemann is the winner, followed by the Spanish Helen Montilla (10 points) and Neus Garriga (12 points). 20 sailors have participated.

Europe Men

    Pau Balaguer from Spain is the first one with a total of 5 points. He has been exceptionally successful since he is the winner of the 6 races sailed during this week in this category. The second place is for the also Spanish Bartolomй Marн (11 points) and Gerard Marin (19 points).

Laser radial

    The Spanish Vicenз Marн is the winner with 7 points, followed by Alvaro Gil de Bernabй (8 points) and Pau Von Rathlef (17 points).

420

    At 420, the winners are Javier Torres / J. Armeсazas (6 points), followed by Matias Bonet / R. Lobo (10 points) and Teo Matheu / I. Binimelis (19 points).
