Red Square Lark Nationals at Weymouth Sailing Club - Day 5
Author: Emma Harris
The Red Square Lark Nationals continued on a perfect
day for sailing with hot sun and Force 3-4 winds
Race 6:
After a clean, Gate start, the wind shifted
progressively right, fooling most of the fleet into
missing the real windward mark and instead rounding a
mark on a neighbouring course.
Those starting early and going left were left
grinning. Many of the overall leaders were left ruing
their lost opportunities. Those spotting the correct
mark were guaranteed top-ten places, with Harry Pynn &
Matt Byrne the desrved winners.
Race 7:
With a short assymmetric course putting a premium on
the first beat, Martin Gillam & Matt Griffiths led the
fleet around the first mark with Matt White & Clare La
forge close behind. These three boats extended their
lead and had a ding-dong battle, but it was Hufton &
Styles who got into the lead downwind and held off the
other two to win.
