Watersports World gets intense
When two yachts fight for the same patch of water, verbal fireworks usually go off. But when competitive One Ton Cup grand prix pros skirmish in kite busting conditions, then it's tough to choose which is more hair raising - the amazing close quarters action or the thunderous verbal broadsides... Sailing - The regatta that started 101 years ago for one ton boats now attracts the cream of grand prix sailors - Thierry Peponnet, Adrian Stead, Jochen Schumann - plus top owners Graham Walker and Ken Read, plus royalty - Prince Felipe de Borbon who skippered the Spanish boat Aifos. It's close racing in cracking conditions off Marseille and this ace report from Andrew Preece captures the intensity of sailing at the sharp end.
