Soling Danish Spring Open Day Two

Author: Andy Beadsworth

Top 6 after tomorrows racing ( 9 races 2 discards) go through to the Match
Racing. Top 2 go straight to Semi's and other do a round robin for the
other two places.

Racing has been tricky, very shifty streaky breezes, generally in the 8-18
knot range, lots of slippery snakes. Interestingly though that the emerging
pattern is that Heiner, Bank, Schuman and United Airlines are just out
infront of the pack. Generally these 4 boats have been fighting it out in
the top 4.

We have had good starts making the first beat a little less stressful than could be. Short courses put a big emphasis on the starts even in these difficult conditions, its just a little bit easier when you get out in front. Speed has been good. We have used different sails every day looking
for our favourite gear. All the fleet agreed to wave the stamping of sails in order for teams to try out different gear in their preparations for Sydney.

The surprising performance of the week is Neville Witty AUS, seemed to find the biggest snakes of everyone. 13,11,9,5,13,6. 10th overall - tough regatta!

It has to be said that the Race management at this event has been no less than excellent. We have had three races a day, all starting on time with almost no delays between races. The racing has probably been the most fun we have had for a while. Short courses well managed quick races with good competition.

After this event will be Kiel, the last Grand Prix event before the games so everyone is trying pretty hard. Lots of Boat Watching going on too. Who's going fast and why!!!!!

Will be interesting Match Racing. Last stop was the trials some 6 weeks or more ago due to the loss of the Match Racing in Spa due to adverse weather.. Been a while. Time to start ramping it up again, lots of interesting training organised between now and then.

Cheers, Andy B, United Airlines Sailing Team
